John Rich was born on 13 June 1717 at W Nottingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania.1,2 He was the son of Joseph Rich and Elizabeth Grubb.
John Rich married Sarah Frazier, daughter of Alexander Frazier and Sarah Coppock, on 3 February 1749 at Kennett MM, Chester County, Pennsylvania.3 In 1767, John Rich, Sr., settled on a farm some distance south of New Garden Monthly Meeting, established in the year 1754. This is in Guilford County, North Carolina.3 When they settled on a farm in Guilford County North Carolina some distance south of New Garden Monthly Meeting about 1767, they attended there. Later he and his family automatically became members of Center Monthly Meeting established in 1773, then Back Creek Monthly Meeting established in 1792, and then Marlborough Monthly Meeting established in 1816. Each was successively closer to their farm. In the year 1779 the southern half of Guilford County, North Carolina was split off and named Randolph County. This change left New Garden MM and Center MM in Guilford County and left Marlborough MM and the farm of John Rich in Randolph County. Also, Back Creek MM south of Marlborough MM was established in Randolph County during the year of 1792.3
John Rich died on 5 September 1798 at Randolph County, North Carolina, at age 81.
